This site opens to a lakeside reserve providing a spectacular 180 degree view of Fiordland.
The client’s brief focused on creating a dynamic home for retirement, with the ability to cater for additional guests and family for interim living.
The brief was fulfilled by orienting the forms of the house to the north, separating the main living and bedroom wing and creating a defined entry, central in the layout of the house.
The recessed north facing walls create sheltered outdoor areas from the the frequent and intense seasonal rainfall. They also helped to provide shade to the adjacent rooms in summer.
